Theme Colors
The next thing I recommend you do is set some default color styles for the theme. This will save some time by setting default colors for things like text, links, buttons, etc.
How To Set Default Theme Colors
To set your color palette, visit Appearance > Editor > Styles to access the style editor. On the right side of the page, you’ll see the Styles panel. Click on Colors.
Then look below the default color palette to Colors. Here you can set the default colors for certain elements like text, links, buttons and headings. Click an element then click a colored circle to select the color for that element. Click a selected color again to unselect it.
When you’re done, be sure to click the blue Save button in the upper right corner. You’ll need to click save twice.
Text
Set the default color to be used for text throughout the site. Usually Theme Black.
Background
Set the default color to be used for the site background. Usually Theme White.
* Different colors can be set on specific groups for colored background sections.
Link
Set the default color for text links throughout the site.
Note: Be sure to click the Hover tab in the popup. You will set the link hover color here.
Captions
Set the default color for image/video captions throughout the site.
Button
Set the default color for the button text as well as the background. You may select gradient in place of the background. Stupidly, you cannot select hover colors for buttons in the admin currently. This will have to be one of the final pre-launch items handled by the developer.
Heading
This sets a default color for all headings. However, we are going to be more specific in the next step…
PRO TIP: You wont see color settings for H1 – H6 by default. Click on the three vertical dots to the right of the Color title and click on H1 through H6 to enable those color settings.
H1 – H6
If you’ve enabled these (see Pro Tip above), you can select the color for heading text and add a background if desired. You may select gradient in place of the background.
* If you are not seeing elements update as expected as you select colors, that might mean that colors have been set, or should be set on the blocks, or in the pages. See Setting Block Styles and Notes on Specificity to learn more.
